Summary:

St. Petronius, who is shown ascending on a cloud towards the Virgin and Christ, was elected and consecrated Bishop of Bologna around 432 A.D. The scene in this rapidly drawn sketch takes place outside of Bologna, recognizable with one of its monumental, tall medieval towers rendered in the background. Given the subject, the drawing is probably by an Italian hand.
