Inscribed by artist in brown ink below drawing, "Hopkins as Alonzo in the Orphan of Valencia"/ " 'Sleep, Irez, sleep, and dream of your Alonzo' Act 1. Scene XV"; verso: inscribed in graphite at bottom of mount, "Given to Mrs. E. M. Fitzgerald by Thackeray." Blind stamp at upper left "Super Fine Satin."
