Inscribed variously in pen and brown ink, "runs in direct line from/ top of Old man to interval/ between Wetherlam and/ the main chain" [over pencil inscription]; "These lines are/ only to give idea/ of [?] plane"; at lower right, "Great cleavage, of my/ own rocks, continued here through/ the Old man, north and south"; at right center, "Tark [?] below". Inscribed on verso in graphite, "Coniston Old Man: cleavage of/ rocks by J. Ruskin/ Frame No. 195 (on glass)", and "("That's mine! That's my/ writing!! Well, you could knock me over/ with a feather"-"In 1919, I was working/ with Mrs. S. at Brantwood. She was turning/ out masses & masses of stuff, and I used to/ go there every day to work with her..."/ Mrs. G.)/ No. 8".
