Inscribed at lower edge in metalpoint: Dr.[superscript "r"] [period under "r"] Jno[superscript "o" Hough Bp of Oxon Litchfield of Worcester July 1736 / from the portrait painted by Riley 1690. the Bp then aged 40; on verso at lower edge in graphite: John Hough Bp. of Oxford + hon of Lichfield / Coventry, now of Worcester. 14 July 1736 / Painted by Mr.[superscript "r"] [period under "r"] Riley 1690 [?] [illegible] Bp [cut off] Then 40.; beyond upper right corner of decorative border: 30. Collector's mark of Jonathan Richardson Sr. inscribed at lower right in metalpoint, R.["R" is underlined]
