Odilon Redon
Young Girl in an Interior
Charcoal, black pastel and oiled charcoal with fixative.
19 5/8 x 14 1/8 inches (500 x 360 mm)
Thaw Collection.

Redon produced this portrait for Robert de Domecy a few years after decorating the dining room at Domecy's château. The patron's granddaughter, Jeanne Roberte, appears surrounded by decorative motifs against a dark background. Even toward the end of his career, Redon had not achieved public success, and support for his work came largely from patrons and literary friends. -- Exhibition Label, from "Drawn to Greatness: Master Drawings from the Thaw Collection"
