Morisot traveled to Cambrai, near the Belgian border, during the fall of 1875 to visit her younger sister Yves and her daughters. Yves's family served as frequent subjects for the artist during that time. In this example, Morisot captured a moment of relaxation and leisure outside the town. She first characterized her subjects in a deft pencil sketch and then finished the drawing with rapid assurance in watercolor, contrasting the lush green grass with the white garments of Yves and her daughter. -- Exhibition Label, from "Drawn to Greatness: Master Drawings from the Thaw Collection"
