1657-1743

An Obelisk for Fireworks

14 15/16 x 10 5/8 x inches (380 x 270 mm)
Pen and brown ink, with brown wash, over graphite, on paper.
1982.75:119

Gift of Mrs. Donald M. Oenslager, 1982.

Notes
This drawing has traditionally been attributed to Giuseppe, presumably through some comparison with the (far more elaborate) ceremonial obelisks and catafalques in his Architettura, e Prospettive. The style, however, is that of an earlier generation of the family, and the scale refers to measurements according to the standard in Parma; an attribution to Ferdinando seems most likely.
Inscriptions/Markings
Inscribed along lower edge with a description of structure and measurements, in pen and brown ink.
