Inscriptions/Markings
Inscribed on the album page below the design, in brown ink, "Virtus invidiae scopus (title) / ___ Quatenus, heú nefas! / Virtútem incolumem odimus / Súblatam ex ocúlis quaerimus invidi" (Since we [alas the shame!], with envy filled, hate Virtue while it lives and mourn only when snatched from sight). The text is from Horace, "Odes", Book III, 24, lines 30-32.
