Peasant Family Outside an Inn
Pen and brown ink and wash, over black chalk, on paper.
6 1/16 x 9 1/8 inches (154 x 232 mm)
Gift of the Christian Humann Foundation.
1990.38
Notes:

Watermark: none.
The heavy-handed brown wash suggests the hand of Cornelis Dusart (1660-1704), who copied, "improved," reworked, and falsely signed drawings by the brothers Adriaen (1610-1685) and Isaac van Ostade (1621-1649). The original underdrawing is more likely to be by Isaac.
Possibly attributed to Cornelis Dusart or Isak von Ostade.

Inscription:

Inscribed at lower right corner, in brown ink, "fco"; unidentified collector's mark (initial "W" within a plain shield in red ink)
