Watermark: coat of arms with fleur-de-lis surmounted by crown (close to Churchill 415 and 416).
The drawing is most likely related to West's 1817 painting of the same subject. The painting, at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, was the culmination of four extant compositional sketches and three oil sketches.
