Notes
The subject of this drawing is not certain. While it could conceivably represent a biblical scene such as the Preaching of the Baptist or Christ Preaching at the Sea of Galilee, it lacks elements that would make that identification clear; it has alternately been suggested that this and several other early compositional sketches by Domenico Tiepolo are capricci, inventions deliberately without a clear subject.
