The verso is a study for the right-hand section of the votive painting of "Doge Marcantonio Memmo before the Virgin and Child with Saints Mark, Anthony Abbot, Louis and Roch, followed by Cities of the State", which hangs in the vestibule of the Hall of the Great Council in the Venetian Ducal Palace. The painting is signed and dated 1615.
