Inscription: 

Inscribed at lower left, in pen and brown ink, "P. vago"; at lower right, in pen and gray-brown ink, a symbol looking like a vertical line with a loop on either side; to the right of this, in pen and brown ink, "60.R"; on mount, at center, just beneath the drawing, in graphite, "Pierin del Vaga 1500-1547"; on verso of mount, in graphite, "2289 (encircled)"; "L 45 000".

Private collection (noble family), Sicily (according to János Scholz who presumably knew this from Aeschlimann of Hoepli [probably Erhard Aeshlimann]); Libreria Antiquaria Hoepli, Milan, from whom purchased in 1954 by János Scholz (1903-1993), New York (see Lugt Suppl. 2933b).
