Head of a Youth

Attributed to Francesco Rustici
1592-1626

Head of a Youth

14 5/8 x 10 11/16 inches (371 x 271 mm)
Black and white chalk on light brown paper.
1979.50

Gift of Janos Scholz.

Notes
Formerly attributed to Orazio Gentileschi, the drawing was recognized by John Marciari as a study by Francesco Rustici, called Rustichino, an attribution confirmed by Marco Ciampolini. The drawing is a preparatory study for the head of one of the young confraternity members in Rustici's painting of "Saint Aloysius Gonzaga among Young Brothers in Prayer" (Palazzo Pitti, Florence), though it also seems very much like a portrait of the studio model.
