Watermark: none visible through lining.
This sheet appears to be a preliminary sketch for a more finished drawing of the same subject with onlookers in an elaborate landscape, in a private collection, in Bologna (see Renato Roli, "Donato Creti. 46 disegni inediti," Bologna, 1973, no. 19, repr., where the present drawing also is mentioned).
The verso is a study for the figure of Mercury in Creti's painting of "Mercury Bearing Argo's Head to Juno", in the Collezioni Comunali d'Arte, in Bologna, executed for Collina Sbaraglia probably in the second decade of the eighteenth century (see Renato Roli, "Donato Creti", Milan, 1967, 87, no. 19, fig. 59).
