Study of a Fur-Lined Cape
Black chalk, heightened with white chalk, on blue paper, slightly faded.
12 9/16 x 8 1/4 inches (319 x 210 mm)
Gift of János Scholz.
1976.36
Provenance:
Sigismondo and Giovanni Coccapani (Lugt 2729); purchased from L. Koher, Argosy, New York, in 1941 by János Scholz, New York (no mark; see Lugt S. 2933b).
Notes:

Professor Miles Chappel thinks the drawing, which looks like a study for a painting or tapestry of a court scene, is early 17th-century Florentine, close to Cigoli, and possibly by Cigoli himself. The collectors mark, Lugt 2729, is that of Sigismondo and Giovanni Coccapani.
Watermark: none.
