Inscription: 

Inscribed at lower left corner, in graphite, "Konink"; at lower right corner, in brown ink, partially obliterated, "Eckhoŭt; and below this, in red chalk, "176". Inscribed on the old mount, at lower right, possibly in the hand of William Sharp, in brown ink, "Eckhout+".
Watermark: Shield surmounted by a crown, fragment (similar to Heawood, nos. 2842-3: 1649 and 1648). Beta radiograph shows two layers of paper, partly obscuring the watermark.
