Inscription: 

Signed at the lower left corner, in brush and black ink, "K. DV.JARDIN". Inscribed on the verso (visible through thin lining), at lower left, in brown ink, "K du Jardin / behoorende aan / J. Chalon". On the old mount, underneath drawing, in Roupell's hand, in brown ink, "RPR / Karl du Jardin / From Bonomi Whites Sale - Christie. 1880"; and below this, in the same hand, in graphite, "Burlington Fine Arts Club Ex. 1883 / & Chalon coll".
Watermark: Horn inside shield (similar to Heawood, nos. 2680-2700: mostly England, 1680s and 1690s). posthorn, hunting horn.
