Inscribed on the verso, in Esdaile's hand, in black ink: at center, "A View of Dort-by A. Cuyp"; at lower right, "WE(erased) 1807 - Trowards collection P 26(crossed out and changed to "35"). N...84". Esdaile's initials have been scraped away from the right corner of the recto and at the beginning of the inscription at the left corner on the verso.
