Inscribed, apparently by Graves, on reverse of original frame in brown ink, "Hanc / Patris sui Effigiem / Quem / ad vivum delineavit / Egregius Pictor T. Gainsbo / rough / Lucillae Annae Mariae / Filae suae dilectissimae / Dedit / Richardus Graves Ecclesiae Clavertoniae / in agro Somerset / Rector / 8th Aug. 1786".
Watermark: Letters "HR" with chain line between letters.
