This drawing is mounted on the same mat as a view of the Campidoglio (Acc. No. 1988.39:1) by the artist. Both belong to a group of eleven landscapes in the now dismembered album 10 of David's twelve "albums factices", compiled during his first trip to Italy in 1774. In addition to these two drawings, and those after antique subjects (Acc. No. 1978.42:1-2), there are two other leaves from album 10 in the collection of the Library, a profile portrait of Pauline Bonaparte (Acc. No. 1990.37), and an Alpine landscape (Acc. No. 1991.6).
