Claire Gilman, our Acquavella Curator and Department Head, Modern and Contemporary Drawings, introduces a new acquisition by Jay DeFeo, who is known for her unconventional use of materials and intense physical method of artmaking. DeFeo produced a varied and compelling body of work over the course of her career that includes drawings, collage, and photographs. This drawing is from a period in the mid-1970s during which DeFeo depicted in a variety of media the tripod she used to make her photographs.
