Morgan Seal 1090
Provenance:
Acquired by Pierpont Morgan sometime between 1885 and 1908.
Notes:

"THe rudimentary engraving and the use of drillings seen in this cylinder may relate it to a piece found at Catal Hoyuk, in Syria and included by Frankfort (Cylinder Seals, pl. xlb) among the seals of peripheral style of the early part of the second millennium. The Catal Hoyuk scene likewise includes a bull, though in a clearer rendering, and the object it supports can be identified as a gate."--Porada, CANES, p. 154
