Provenance
Acquired by Pierpont Morgan sometime between 1885 and 1908.
Notes
"Seal 956 shows female figures surrounding a standard, or perhaps a palm tree, topped by the head of a male god. Frankfort has commented on this seal in his discussion of the sacred tree. He suggests that a relation between the god and the tree is indicated by the fact that here a head emerges from the crown of the tree, and that the tree may be a manifestation of the god."--Porada, CANES, p. 127
