Landscape with a Farmhouse Along a Road Beside a Canal
ca. 1652
Drypoint, on paper.
79 x 210 mm
RvR 311
NHD 273
Provenance:
Jan Baptist de Graaf (1742-1804), Amsterdam; John Heywood Hawkins (1803-1877), London and Bignor Park; Walter Francis, 5th Duke of Buccleuch (1806-1884), London and Dalkeith; George W. Vanderbilt (1862-1914); from whom purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan in 1905.
Notes:

Watermark: None.
Margins 2.5-4 mm
One of the two impressions in the Library (see RvR 312).
Only one state.
The pinnacle of the church tower in the distance to the right consists of two lines only, while in the other impression it consists of three.
This is possibly due to the fact that drypoint lines wore away quickly, as in most late impressions have very poor lines, according to White and Boon.
