Notes
The face, which previously appeared in the tree to the right of the top of young man's oar, burnished out and replaced by shading. The bank at the lower right redrawn in drypoint. The plants beside the river at the lower left have been partly burnished out, and redrawn further back. The area beside the upper part of the left margin, previously only lightly shaded with parallel diagonal lines, now closely worked with cross-hatching. (White and Boon)

Inscriptions/Markings
Signed and dated lower center, in drypoint, "Rembrandt. f 1642" (the '2' in reverse).
Watermark: Foolscap with five points over "4" and three balls.
