Described in the catalogue of the collection of Valerius Röver and afterwards by Bartsch, as 'Christ offering the keys to St. Peter'. In later catalogues up to and including Hind, the subject was interpreted as 'the Incredulity of Thomas'. The correct title was pointed out by W. Weisbach, "Rembrandt", 1926, p. 437. (White and Boon)
