Journey with Poulenc Trio through the sounds of ragtime. Experience the story of ragtime and its evolution, from Scott Joplin's syncopated rags born in the Mississippi Valley, to Duke Ellington's sophisticated jazz emerging from the Harlem Renaissance. Ragtime continues to influence composers across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, from André Previn to Viet Cuong. Discover how this revolutionary art form, rooted in African American musical innovation, transformed the trajectory of American music.

A pioneering oboe, bassoon, and piano ensemble, the Poulenc Trio has garnered international recognition over its 20-year history. With performances in forty-seven U.S. states and at prestigious music festivals around the world, including the Ravello Festival in Italy, the San Miguel de Allende Festival in Mexico, and the White Nights Festival in Russia, they have firmly established themselves as one of the most active and sought-after touring piano-wind ensembles in the country. 

This concert takes place in Gilder Lehrman Hall on the Ground Floor. Doors to the Hall will open 30 minutes before the concert begins. Attendees are invited to view Ragtime: Cakewalk in Pianoland before the concert from 5:30 to 7 PM.
