Concert | Alkemie: Florilegium
On sale June 1, 11 AM EST
$75; $65 for Morgan members
Experience the vibrant music of sixteenth-century England and France in an intimate concert in J. Pierpont Morgan’s Library. Alkemie brings early music to contemporary audiences through an innovative program of instrumental and vocal works drawn from medieval court, cloister, and folk music. Presented alongside scents and sights from the period, this immersive concert illuminates the flora and fauna woven into the music. Voices and period instruments, including vielles, viols, recorders, douçaines, bagpipes, and percussion, bring the sixteenth century to the present.
Alkemie is known for its “characterful playing” (The New Yorker) and “superb ensemble skills” (Limelight). Comprised of singer-performers playing over a dozen instruments (including vielles, harps, psaltery, gittern, recorders, douçaines, and percussion), the ensemble has performed at numerous early music programs including the Amherst Early Music Festival, Arizona Early Music Society, Cambridge Society for Early Music, and the Berkeley Early Music Festival. Alkemie has released four albums to date.
