Captain Rock, Commander of the Insurgents in Ireland
Dublin : Pub. by McCleary, Nassau St., [ca. 1824?]
Formerly owned by Sir Robert Peel.
Full-length image of Irish folk character Captain Rock, portrayed as a ragged man in a worn green coat, torn stockings, and patched trousers. He leans on a spear and carries two pistols tucked into his belt and a sword in a worn scabbard at his hip. A bottle labelled "POTTEEN" protrudes from a pocket of his coat, and a long white ribbon printed "ERIN GO BRAGH" is wound around the crown of his hat and tied in a bow. He rests his right foot on a scroll labelled "Tithes." Behind him is a bare landscape with a figure hanging from a simple gallows in the distance.
