Notes
Proof on India paper of a wood engraved illustrated part wrapper designed by H.K. Browne for C.J. Lever's novel The Daltons, or, Three roads in life, originally issued in parts with illustrations by Browne in 1850-1852 by Chapman and Hall, London.
Impression appears to be an "overlay" proof from an unfinished block, with most of the printed areas made by the portions of wood left between the engraved areas excised and the margin closley trimmed to the contours of the design.
