Summary

A burly sailor (right) sits with five other sailors, one of whom is black, and two perhaps being petty officers, drinking grog at a plank-table slung from the roof. They have a tub of grog inscribed 13 on the table, another hangs from the roof. He tells his story with an expression of rapt, good-humoured pugnacity, his words (19 lines) engraved below the title. All listen intently, with approving smile
