Summary

The reference to Bartholomew Fair and depictions of poeticised figures suggests this engraving perhaps illustrated an 18th-century edition of Ben Jonson. Another possibility is that this print may have be related to a work published by S. Baker in 1717, entitled: Bartholomew Fair: an heroi-comical poem.<br>Two figures to the right of the design, crowned with laurels, hold a harp labelled Dulce Decus and a scroll labelled Bartholo: Fair. They face Apollo, who is seated, holding a lyre.
