First edition, first state, with the word "divine" in table of contents and "devine" in the body and chapter headings. Cf. author's inscription.
Library's copy housed in black cloth clamshell box.
Author's inscription in ink starting on front flyleaf and continuing on front flyleaf verso: Dear Mr. Hart -- This copy happens to be one of eight in which the word divine is correctly spelled in the table of contents. The mistake was discovered after eight copies had been bound and the remainder of the edition of 1400 were changed. Book collectors tell me this makes these first ones more valuable and sought after. With all best wishes, [signed] Anita Loos.
