Inserted in this book are some of the trial prints with comments on their designs: 1) The half-title (Part one). 2) First chapter title (poster style). 3) Chapter two title (map) page 11. 4) Page 32 (color vs Straight black) 5) Page 64 (large trial, later refined) 6) Page 350 (refined in color, lost character) ... [signed] Carl Hertzog Oct. 10, 1981; "Note about the chapter titles" by Hertzog on page [468], describing his and Tom Lea's collaborative approach to the design of the book's chapter titles.
