An incomplete copy of the 1902 edition of Madame Bovary, published in New York by D. Appleton & Co. with an introduction by Henry James, prepared for deposit with the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress. The incomplete text lacks title page and preliminaries, including only the biographical introduction by James, excerpted chapters 1 and 11 of Blaydes's translation of Flaubert's novel, and an illustrated essay entitled "The portraits of Gustave Flaubert" by Octave Uzanne which appeared on p. [425]-431 of the published book.
