"Ernest Hemingway had nothing to do with the preparation of this book, never saw the proof, furnished no material for the introduction, and has just wired me protesting that he considers the introduction inaccurate and in bad taste since it gives him credit for a film the credit which should go to Joris Ivens and John Ferno. He also protests again the F.A.I. banner in the front and back of the book and has requested that all money to be paid to him from the book be paid directly to Almuth Heilbrun, widow of Dr. Almuth Heilbrun of the Twelth International Brigade, who was killed in action at Huesca in June, 1937.
