Author's inscription in ink starting on top half of front flyleaf and ending on preliminary leaf: For Jimmy Hicks -- A great showman, a great guy* (*over) but a very bad golfer -- in memory -- [signed] Horace -- Hollywood -- August -- 1935; rudimentary drawing by the author in green ink on bottom half of front flyleaf depicting the grounds of an unidentified golf course's 9th hole with stick figures intended to represent McCoy and Hicks engaged in a round of golf and annotations to distinguish compositional elements ("Rough", "Hicks is lost in here somewhere", "9th hole", and "us").
