Swinburne contributed this letter to "The examiner" on 11 Dec. 1875 under the name of Thomas Maitland; it is an attack on Robert Buchanan, who successfully sued the newspaper for libel because of this letter. The pamphlet is supposed to have been made up for the use of counsel at the trial.
Considered to be a forgery by T.J. Wise. See "Centenary Studies," p. 38-44.
