Needham, citing Sydney Cockerell, dates Morris's creation of this rejected border design to February of 1893.
Trial page consisting of a repeated passage from the "Knight's tale", with a hand drawn border around the letterpress executed by Morris in black ink and china white over graphite and abandoned by him before completion.
One of a group of four layouts in an early state: the text is printed, with woodcuts pasted in place and borders added in china white.
