Proof impressions of 79 of the 87 wood engraved illustrations cut by W.H. Hooper after Burne-Jones for William Morris's Kelmscott Press edition of the works of Geoffrey Chaucer.
Proofs, most in multiple impressions on different paper stocks, of the wood engravings by William Harcourt Hooper after Sir Edward Burne-Jones; many present in multiple states, including early uncorrected states and trial impressions with different decorative borders, several annotated and retouched by the artist, with some of them dated and initialed by the engraver.
"Generally, a progression of pulls seems to have been made, starting with thin proof paper, moving to thicker proof paper, then to rag wove paper, and finally, after corrections, to Kelmscott paper."--Needham.
