Notes
Purver began translating the Old Testament about 1733. In 1742, he attempted to get portions published, but was not successful until 1764. He claimed to have executed his translation, also known as the "Quaker Bible," under divine instruction. --Dict. of Nat. Biog. 16:493.
This version of the Bible was made by Anthony Purver, a member of the Society of Friends, from original Greek and historical sources and was published originally in parts in 1742. In 1763 Dr. John Fothergill, also a Quaker, had it published at his own expense.
Published by John Fothergill, who purchased the copyright in 1763. Cf. Darlow & Moule, 862.
