"My design challenge was to communicate Emory Douglas's current political and activist art ideas using the text of his artistic manifesto while paying respect to the decades of his work that informed his evolved thinking."--Artist's statement.
Printed chiefly in red.
"Colette Gaiter created and printed this bifolio during a residency at Halden Bookworks...in Halden, Norway, in late May and early June of 2023. ... Emory Douglas created the text of the manifesto. All of his illustrations used in the piece were published in various issues of the original Black Panther newspaper. Background art, scanned from vintage original Black Panther newspapers, was assembled and printed using Adobe Photoshop software. The typeface chosen, Futura PT Condensed, most closely resembles one of the typefaces used in the newspaper's headlines.... The text was printed letterpress on top of the inkjet-printed sheets."--Colophon.
