Helen Vendler's essay 'Reading and hearing John Ashbery's self-portrait in a convex mirror' is reproduced on the record jacket as liner notes, illustrated on front with Parmigianino's painting and, on back, with Avedon's portrait of Ashbery.
Avedon's photograph printed by continuous-tone offset lithography at Magnolia Editions, Oakland; Freilicher's lithograph and those of the de Koonings were printed from the stones at Hampton Editions Limited, Sag Harbor; Dine's woodcut printed at the Arion Press; Katz's lithograph was printed from a metal plate at Siena Studio, New York; Kitaj's soft-ground etching by Aldo Crommelynck, Paris; Rivers's etching was produced by photogravure with hand coloring at Universal Limited Art Editions, West Islip.
Includes 12-inch analog disc, mono, 33 1/3 rpm, of Ashbery reading his poem in 1975 for Susan Howe's "Poetry" program on WBAI Radio, New York. The recording was later edited at 1750 Arch Studios, Berkeley, and cut and pressed at Wakefield Manufacturing, Phoenix.
