Summary
Allegorical scene on the Regency of Philippe Duc d'Orléans; at left, the grieving figure of France, seated beside an empty cornucopia symbolizing the poor state of finances in the country; she looks at the portrait of the Duke of Orléans, who is presented as her saviour by Mercury, god of Trade; at right sits Minerva, goddess of Wisdom, who points at a cornucopia pouring out its wealth; in the background, at right, people flocking to a bank.
