The extra Christmas number of the periodical Household words for 1856, containing a story in three parts written by Charles Dickens in collaboration with Wilkie Collins and others. Most of the first section of the story, "The wreck," was written by Dickens and the final section, entitled "The deliverence", by Wilkie Collins, with the middle section, "The beguilement of the boats", containing contributions by Percy Fitzgerald, Harriet Parr (as "Holme Lee"), Adelaide Anne Procter, and Rev. James White.
