The author's annotated proof copy, with copies of the prospectus, an article in Art Journal, and proofs of Laurence Housman's designs for the cover and spine of the trade edition. Inscribed by him on front flyleaf "Proof copy -- with unlettered plates. HCM. Dec. 1899."
Laid in are letters to the author from Cecil French, Noel Hanbury, Alexander Macdonald, Whitworth Wallis, William Rossetti, and Adam L. Gowans (director of Gowans and Gray, Glasgow).

Binding: 
Gilt brown morocco by Douglas Cockerell with his cipher and the date 1899 in gilt on the back turn-in, the author's initials HCM tooled in gilt on the back cover. This is one of the ten-guinea subscription bindings in "inlaid African leather" (viz. the prospectuses bound in at the end).
Provenance: 
Bookplates of H. C. Marillier and Gerhard Jensen. The Marillier Kelmscott House bookplate was printed at the Kelmscott Press in the Golden type.
