Accession number:
PML 198274
Author:
Radiguet, Raymond, 1903-1923.
Description:
1 item (46 leaves) ; 27 x 21 cm
Credit:
Purchased on the Gordon N. Ray Fund, 2019.
Notes:

Collection of proofs and manuscripts for 16 poems, comprising 23 leaves of proofs printed on recto and 23 additional leaves, which are a combination of 13 manuscripts and 3 printed poems.
These proofs were intended for a collection to be titled 'Jouets du vent,' issued by Simon Kra in 1923, but the publication was never realized. All but one poem (La Reine des aulnes) would appear in slightly variant forms in the posthumous collection 'Les Joues en feu' (1925).
Of the manuscripts, only Un cygne mort is signed by the author.
Spine title on collector's binding: Jouets du vent.
Probable sources for the 3 printed poems: Histoire de France, from Les Écrits nouveaux (June 1921), pp. 36-8; Elégie, from Intentions (June 1922), pp. 20-22; Que le coq agite sa crête, from Les Feuilles libres (June 1922).
Second part of Elégie in its printed state has been misbound and mistakenly inscribed: Bouquet de flammes (suite).
Library has an earlier set of the same proofs in a slightly different order, hand-corrected by Radiguet (Cf. PML 195783).

Binding:
Three-quarter black morocco, with black leather sides, spine lettered in gold, by P.-L. Martin (his stamp).
Variant Title:

Jouets du vent

Inscriptions/Markings:

Inscribed by publisher at top of first leaf: Composition en placards du livre de Radiguet, qui sous le titre Jouets du vent devait paraître chez KRA en 1923. Seules épreuves existantes. [signed] S. Kra.
Publisher's stamp on first leaf: Editions du Sagittaire / 16 avril 1923 / Simon Kra / 6 rue Blanche, Paris (IXe); also stamped at bottom in green: épreuve; and inscribed in ink: 1re 16-4-23; stray pencil marks throughout.
