Engraving by Gillot issued as a headpiece illustration on page 182 (Book III, fable 14), of M. de la Motte's "Fables nouvelles" (Paris : Gregoire Dupuis, 1719).
Forms part of a collection of 586 etchings by and after Claude Gillot, mounted into a bound album by a former owner, with letterpress title page reading "Oeuvres de Gillot." (see PML 198162).

Summary: 

Illustration shows a soldier sleeping under a tree at left with his sword placed next to him, upright; at left in the foreground, a ploughshare; beyond, a peasant arrives with two horses to be used for labour; he holds a whip in his right hand; further beyond, at right, the outlines of buildings can be seen.
