Engraving by Gillot issued as a headpiece illustration on page 224 (Book IV, fable 6), of M. de la Motte's "Fables nouvelles" (Paris : Gregoire Dupuis, 1719).
Forms part of a collection of 586 etchings by and after Claude Gillot, mounted into a bound album by a former owner, with letterpress title page reading "Oeuvres de Gillot." (see PML 198162).

Summary:
Illustration shows a group of bourgeois gentleman tasting wine in a room; to the right, near a table, one man is seated, holding a glass; in the middle, the master of the lodgings, holding a bottle, leans towards two men in robes, one of which holds a wine glass.
